経済力を高めるものとしての批判的思考

前回に引き続き，VOAニュースから，critical thinkingの語の入ったニュースの紹介です。「中東と北アフリカは教育改革が必要と世界銀行は述べている」というタイトルの記事です（2008年２月５日）。リード文と該当箇所を引用します。

A new World Bank report says countries in the Middle East and North Africa need to overhaul their education systems in order to thrive in the new global economy. The report says the region has made important progress in improving literacy and closing the gender gap, but needs to shift the emphasis to teaching key skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking and languages.

For example, education systems in the Middle East and North Africa tend to focus too much on rote memorization.

"Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, complex communications are skills that are necessary for the knowledge economy or for performance in the global market, and the region ranks low in these skills. So everybody agrees on that, and all the countries are working on it," Ezzine said.

教育改革が必要な理由は，グローバル経済で成功するためであり，批判的思考，問題解決技能，コミュニケーションが，知識経済にとって必要なのだそうです。

ここで言われている必要な技能とは，以前に書いた「ジェネリック・スキル」，あるいはキー・コンピテンシーということなのでしょうか（ジェネリック・スキルとしての批判的思考）。

それにしても，批判的思考を身につけることが，グローバル経済での成功とどうつながるのか，そのためにどのような教育がありうるのか，についてはもっと詳しく知りたいところです。
